write [first]

writings.

just write.

“...just write.”

I’ve had this thought for a while now.

This mantra of “just write” has been a voice in my head and calling on my heart. Sometimes, “just write” whispers softly. Other times, “just write” screams so loudly and pounds so intensely inside my being I can hardly stay quiet.

But I do.

And I have.

Stayed quiet, I mean. As in: radio silence.

No more! Today, I let it out.

It I use as an intentionally ambiguous, yet-to-be-defined pronoun. Why? Because if I have to define it now with 100% clarity, I would never start. In business books for start-ups and aspiring entrepreneurs, the expert always says to jump before you’re ready and good enough, not perfection, is necessary to get things moving. So, I’m just writing…it.

I can tell you what it is not. It is not for people whose sole reading list consists of people.com and/or cnn.com and/or wikileaks.org. It is not heavily science or math based. It is not a 5-step-process to becoming a multi-million. (Wait…1.) stock up on cash 2.) go to the gas station 3.) buy a lotto ticket 4.) win 5.) cash in – there you go! We’re done here.) And it is most definitely not a recipe blog, primarily because I cannot follow a recipe to save my life so how am I expected to write you one?

Instead, it will probably go a little something like this:

TABLE OF CONTENTS

In no particular order, which clearly defeats the “how-to-find-something” purpose of giving you a table of contents but leaves the organizational markers intact.

  • RELATIONSHIPS
    • Faith
    • Friendship
    • Dating
    • Engagement / Wedding Planning
    • Marriage
    • Observances (aka, not my own relationships)
  • WORK
    • Life Calling (heavy stuff, I know!)
    • Looking for Work
    • Staying at Work
    • Leaving Work
    • Retirement
  • FOOD + BEV
    • Making Food
    • Eating Food
    • Enjoying Food / Food + Body
    • Wine
    • Beer, Alcohol & Other Beverages
  • CHOCOLATE (yes, seriously)
    • Discovering + Exploring Chocolate
    • Eating Chocolate
    • Making Chocolate
    • What If I Was Allergic to Chocolate?
  • EVERYTHING ELSE

By the way, every writing instinct inside me is saying “ambiguity = bad, clarity = good!”, pushing me to define it and clearly state my purpose. I don’t disagree. But if I wait, I won’t write. And starting now, refining and defining later is what needs to happen.

So, here we go! I truly hope you’ll love…it.
